Man hit, killed by vehicle while walking dog in Oakland County

Dog located unharmed

OXFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man was killed Tuesday morning when a vehicle hit him while he walked his dog in Oxford Township.

Authorities said the 63-year-old man was crossing in an area with no crosswalk just before 6:30 a.m. near Drahner Road and Brookside Court when he was struck by a 2008 Buick Enclave. Authorities noted the man was wearing a light at the time of the crash.

The 21-year-old man driving the Buick was traveling west on Drahner Road when he hit the man in the middle of the road.

The driver stayed on the scene and called 911.

The pedestrian was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, where he was pronounced dead. The dog was found unharmed. It was returned to the victim’s family.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be to be factors for the driver, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation.
