Oxford Township man charged after allegedly stealing money, not paying bill at bar

LAKE ORION, Mich. – Leonza Lafayette Tipton III turned himself into Lake Orion police Tuesday in connection with the theft of money from an employee’s purse and ducking out on his bill at Sagebrush Cantina in Lake Orion.

According to police, Tipton arrived at Sagebrush Cantina at about midnight Friday.

At about 2:07 a.m. Saturday, an employee who was completing her shift set her purse on the bar while she completed tasks.

Police said Tipton took the purse from the bar into the men’s room where cash was removed and left the building afterward without paying his bill.

Tipton was charged Wednesday on one count of larceny and one count of defraud.

He is expected to return to court Nov. 13.
