Detroit oldies station 94.7 HD2 ditches Elvis for Santa

94.7 HD2 will be playing Christmas music 24/7

DETROIT – Forget Thanksgiving and keep the turkey in the freezer, because we’re going straight to Christmas.

Detroit’s oldies station 94.7 HD2 officially became a 24-hour Christmas station midnight Friday, according to a release from the station Nov. 4.

The station, one of Metro Detroit’s few classics stations, has left the Temptations in the dust for Christmas mainstays like Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” and Burl Ives’ “Holly Jolly Christmas.”

“We’re interrupting our normal HD2 station programming, which features great oldies stars like Elvis, the Temptations and the Beach Boys to bring listeners the very best Christmas music experience,” said program director Jerry Tarrants.

This leaves Metro Detroiters with two oldies stations: WOMC 104.3 and WLLZ 106.7.

94.7 HD2 isn’t the only station to begin deck the halls with boughs of holly, 98.7 also signaled in the holiday Friday with Christmas music beginning 6 a.m. that day.

Whether you’re still recovering from Halloween or finalizing your Thanksgiving menu, the Christmas takeover begins now.
