58-year-old Monroe man killed

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 58-year-old Monroe man was killed Monday when his pickup truck went off the roadway and crashed into a mailbox, a fire hydrant, a light post and a tree, according to police.

The crash happened at 9:13 a.m. Monday on Vivian Road near Fairway Street in Frenchtown Township, officials said.

The man was driving a black 2009 GMC pickup truck south on Vivian Road when it went off the roadway, police said.

After crashing into the mailbox, fire hydrant, light post and tree, the pickup came to rest in the front yard of a home on the west side of Vivian Road, according to authorities.

Officials pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police don’t believe excessive speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The man was wearing a seat belt, authorities said.

Monroe County deputies are investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 734-240-7542.
