21-year-old woman sentenced in beating death of her boyfriend's 3-year-old son

Father originally charged, found not guilty by jury

INKSTER, Mich. – A 21-year-old woman was in court Tuesday morning to face sentencing in the death of her boyfriend's 3-year-old in Inkster.

Andrea A. Bracy, of Inkster, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse. She was sentenced to 9 to 15 years in prison.

Bracy's boyfriend, Aurelio R. Smith, 41, was originally charged in the boy's death. He was found not guilty by a jury.

Police said they were called to a Garden City hospital emergency room, where 3-year-old Tyme Smith was suffering from severe injuries to his head and all over his body. The boy was alive when he got to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries Oct. 13.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled that Tyme Smith was killed by multiple blunt force trauma injuries to his head and body. The autopsy found Tyme Smith was beaten so badly his liver was split in two.

Bracy spoke briefly before the court, apologizing for her actions and blaming her boyfriend for the injuries.

“The man who caused all these injuries and so much pain in our lives is just free,” Bracy said. “I don’t know how to deal with that.”
