DETROIT – A 22-year-old man was charged Tuesday in connection with a traffic stop where officers were fired upon on Detroit's west side.
Mack Sheckels, III, of Detroit, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of felonious assault, four counts of felony firearm, resisting and obstructing a police officer and reckless use of a firearm.

Officers initiated a traffic stop at about 8 p.m. Friday in the area of Puritan and Manor avenues. Police said the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed and disregarded a yield sign.

A passenger in the back seat of of the vehicle got out and fired a shot at police before running, police said.
A helicopter with a camera followed the shooter before officers caught up with him, police said.
Sheckels was taken into custody and sent to the hospital with an injured foot.
Police said no officers were hit or injured. Four people were arrested, police said.
Police said officers did not return fire.
