3 arrested in connection to attack of Army veteran outside Westland 7-Eleven

Three men punched, kicked Livonia man outside store

WESTLAND, Mich. – The Westland Police Department says three people involved in Thursday's assault and battery against an Army veteran have been arrested.

Adam Wagner, 25, told Local 4 on Friday he had gone to the 7-Eleven on S. Venoy Road in Westland to buy cigarettes, but noticed three men giving the female clerk a hard time. He said he intervened and then walked out, but the three men followed.

Wagner said the men shouted racial and homophobic slurs, referencing the U.S. Army and military insignias on his vehicle, before they began punching and kicking him.

Wagner said he initially tried to follow the men, but they turned around and started beating on him again.

After the men fled, Wagner went to the closest home he could get to and asked for help. He's now at home recovering. His nose is broken, his lip had to be stitched up and he can barely see out of his left eye because of how swollen it is.

On Saturday, Westland police said that the department made three arrests in the attack. Police said the public helped identify the three men who took part in the beating of a man who served his country in Afghanistan.

"The Westland Police Department would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying these three subjects," the department said.

Police said at this time the identities of the three arrested will not be released.
