Teens robbed of cellphones, wallets while taking pictures on trail

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Three teenagers were robbed at gunpoint Tuesday while taking pictures on a hiking trail in Rochester Hills.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on the pathway of the Clinton River Trails just north of Hamlin and Crooks roads.

A 16-year-old boy, from Troy, and two 15-year-old boys, from Troy and Rochester Hills, said they were on the pathway taking pictures with their cellphones when three people on bicycles robbed them of their cellphones and wallets.

One of the men showed them the butt of a gun that was concealed in his front pocket, police said.

The teens said they complied with the bicyclists' demands and were not injured during the incident.

Police searched the area for the three bicyclists, but didn't find any sign of them. They were unable to track the stolen phones.

One of the bicyclists was described as a black man, about 20 years old, with tattoos on his arms and neck. He was about 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a thin build, and was wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

Another bicyclists was described as a white man, about 16 or 17 years old, roughly 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a medium to average build. He had curly blonde hair with a light goatee, and was wearing a white hat, baggy shorts and a baggy shirt.

The third bicyclist was described as a Hispanic woman, about 14 or 15 years old, with long brown hair and a light skin complexion. She was wearing black leggings.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
