Property at Thompsons Heights subdivision in Cherry Valley Township, Lake County.

Eighty parcels of public land in Michigan will be up for grabs during an auction that will be hosted Dec.12-Jan. 10.

The auction will feature land mainly in the central and northern parts of the Lower Peninsula and parts of the Upper Peninsula, including Alpena, Arenac, Barry, Bay, Cheboygan, Dickinson, Gladwin, Iron, Kalkaska, Lake, Menominee, Midland, Montmorency, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oakland, Osceola, Oscoda and Roscommon counties.

The parcels range in size from less than an acre to 146 acres.

The properties are isolated from other DNR-managed public land, are difficult to manage and provide limited public outdoor recreation benefits. Several of the parcels are forested and have riverside or lake frontage and are better suited for private ownership.

The DNR said that the proceeds from the sale of the land will help provide future outdoor recreation opportunities.
