The thought of someone abducting your child is enough to make any parent shudder. But the 911 call from the Oct. 26 kidnapping of a Washtenaw County boy shows a desperate mother coming unhinged on the side of a dark rural road.

The call is 16 minutes of pure hysteria. It would have been harder to listen to if it did not have a happy ending: 2-year-old Jerron Jackson was found safe.

The call was made just after 1 a.m. from Augusta Township.

911 dispatch: "How can I help you?"

Mother: "My son was just kidnapped"

911 dispatch: "What's your address ma'am?"

Mother: "(Unintelligible) they took him in a car"

The dispatcher is heard on the call trying to calm the frantic mother.

911 dispatch: "What address are you calling from?"

Mother: "(Unintelligible) ... My car is disabled on the side of the road"

The mother tells the dispatcher her gray Ford Taurus broke down on Whittaker Road, south of Judd Road, while she was driving her three children home.

The mother can be heard wailing about a man in a red pick truck having taken her son after stopping to ask if she needed help.

"I just saw him to to the back of my car to look at my gas tank and then opened the door and took my child," the mother said.

Two other children in the car, three and four years old, were unharmed.

Police issued an Amber Alert but later canceled it when Jackson was found 12 hours later by family members who were searching for him -- not far from where he had been reported missing.

Police haven't identified the mother, but she identifies herself as "Miah" in the 911 call.

Police said they haven't found a red pickup truck or the alleged abductor. They continue to ask for tips from the public about any vehicles stopped on Whittaker Road at that time: 517-241-8000.
