All clear given after suspicious package found at Birch Run outlet mall

Police rope off section of Birch Run; 15 stores evacuated on Sunday

BIRCH RUN, Mich. – Police responded to the Birch Run Premium Outlet mall, located off of I-75, after a suspicious package was found on Sunday.

The all clear was given at 3: 30 p.m., after packages were noticed in a store trash can by a worker who then contacted mall security.

Security took no risk and the state police were called.

Shoppers were evacuated from a section of the mall while the Michigan State Police bomb squad and K-9 units investigated.

Police roped off a section near the Loft Outlet store and approximately 15 stores in total were effected by the evacuation.

Police declined to name the store where the packages were found, but say they were merely someone's trash and posed no threat.

In Detroit, a suspicious package was found outside of the 6th police precinct that promoted officers to evacuate Sunday morning.

The all clear was given in this case and police were able to reenter the building just before 9 a.m.
