Ann Arbor police seek man who tried sexually assaulting University of Michigan student

Police say man followed student while she was walking home to off-campus apartment

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A man shown in security camera photos is wanted by Ann Arbor police for allegedly trying to sexually assault a University of Michigan student.

The assault attempt happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of East Washington Street where there are several off-campus apartments.

Police say the 22-year-old student was followed by the man as she was walking back to apartment in the early morning.

"I mean, usually I am not walking alone to my apartment late at night," said student Hannah Crisler.

Crisler is the director of the "I Will" sexual assault campaign on U of M's Ann Arbor campus. The campaign helps students stand up against sexual assault and raise awareness on the issue. She lives where Sunday morning's incident took place.

However, Crisler said she hasn't heard anything about it. She wishes Ann Arbor police would have immediately alerted women who live in the area about a man following women and trying to sexually assault them. Instead, she said they found out about it six days later.

"It's kind of alarming that they haven't warned the students about a potential sexual assault case," she said.

Police say security cameras in the area caught the student-aged man just before he started following his potential victim.

He is described as college-aged, white and about 5 feet 8 inches or 5 feet 10 inches in height.

Anyone with information on this is asked to contact the Ann Arbor Police Department at 734-794-6930.
