BBB says people nationwide receiving fake bills via email

An old email phishing scam is back.

Last month scammers attempted to trick Verizon customers into opening fake bill notices. Now, AT&T customers are being targeted.

The Better Business Bureau say people nationwide are receiving fake emails that are identical to real alerts AT&T sends out.

The email scam looks like a real reminder for customers to make a monthly payment to an extremely large bill.

The BBB says AT&T customers and non-customer are both receiving the email scams.

The large bill amounts is one warning sign to the scam and the BBB says another way to tell if your bill is fake is to place your mouse on the link inside the email to see the destination URL.

A real bill will list an AT&T's website URL and the scam email will take you to a third party site.
