OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police responded to a potential domestic-violence complaint Friday made by a neighbor who was awakened by yelling and gunfire in Oakland Township.

The homeowner, 53, told authorities that a 34-year-old woman had been staying at his home. He said her boyfriend came to the house unannounced. The homeowner claimed that he came to the door with a handgun and asked the boyfriend to leave, authorities said.

The woman willingly left with the boyfriend, 41, which is when the homeowner claimed to have fired several warning shots into the air as they drove away, authorities said.

Police tracked down the woman, who informed them that the shots weren't fired into the air, but at the boyfriend’s car. Authorities said an investigation found a bullet lodged in the rear passenger door panel of the vehicle that matched several shell casings found in the yard of the homeowner.

The homeowner was arrested and taken to the Oakland County Jail. The incident remains under investigation.
