Bobby Ferguson in court Thursday

Motion hearing to move trial venue

Headline Goes Here

DETROIT - Bobby Ferguson's attorney filed a motion to change the venue of Ferguson's upcoming trial.

Ferguson's defense team believes the trial would be unfair in the Eastern District Court because of the outside influence on jurors. In the motion, they reference the Sixth Amendment, which secures criminal defendants the right to trial by an impartial jury.

The motion hearing is set for 2 P.M. today.

If the judge disagrees with Ferguson's defense team, his trial will proceed as planned and begin with a pretrial on January 21, 2014.

Ferguson was sentenced 21 years in federal prison on October 11, for his involvement in the Detroit corruption scandal.
