Police are trying to track down thieves who broke into a church in the Brightmoor community on Detroit's west side.
The Brightmoore Aldersgate United Methodist Church is a lifeline in the community, but Tuesday morning, the church fell victim to vandals.
"There is not a one square inch of this space in this church that is not used to give to the community," said the Rev. Jonathan Combs, pastor of the church.
The damage will not stop the church from holding their holiday concert this weekend.
Combs says the thieves broke in through the youth room downstairs and made their way into the building. They made their way to a television, but ultimately ended up breaking it. It's the second time thieves have attempted to take a television from the church.
Combs knows the church is important to the Brightmoor neighborhood.
"It means a lot to me to bring the good news of peace, joy, hope, grace, mercy and love to a community," Combs said. "It means everything to me."
A few broken windows and doors won't break their spirit or their desire to help the community in need. The pastor is considering getting security cameras to deter criminals from breaking in again.
Police are investigating and have taken fingerprints and DNA from the crime scene.
