Canton Township woman gets 9 days in jail for bleach in husband's eye drops

Husband suffered no permanent damage

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - A Canton Tonwship wife previously convicted for putting bleach in her husband's eye drops, which could have left him permanently blinded, was sentenced to 9 days in jail and probation on Monday.

Kristy Ryan McDermed wanted to harm her husband after a dispute, and was convicted of domestic violence charges as a result. In addition to her short jail time and 18 months of probation she will have to pay a $1,195 fine.

Her husband said he immediately knew something was wrong after putting the drops in one of his eyes.

"An investigation began. Detectives went out and spoke to Ms. Mcdermed in this case and she did admit that she put some bleach into his Visine because she was troubled over some past domestic issues," said Canton Police Lt. Charles Baugh.

The man was treated and suffered no permanent damage to his eye. Meanwhile, his wife found herself in court. Police said they had never seen a case such as this.

"And she actually admitted to posting on Craigslist a request that she would pay someone to actually assault her husband," Baugh said.

Investigators interviewed several potential witnesses including the couple's children. Those close to the couple say they were aware there were issues but this incident took everyone by surprise.
