Canton woman stops coyote from attacking dog

8-year-old West Highland Terrier grabbed, dragged by coyote

CANTON, Mich. – A Canton woman's quick reaction to the sound of her dog's cries may have saved the dog's life.

Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, the woman heard her dog's screams and looked to see the 8-year-old West Highland Terrier being attacked by a coyote in the area of Ridge Road near Cherry Hill.

The coyote had the dog, named Duncan, by the scruff of the neck and was attempting to drag it into a nearby wooded area.

The homeowner ran toward the coyote, screaming until it released the dog.

The coyote then ran off, leaving the dog with several puncture wounds on his neck. The dog was taken to a local animal hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
