Christmas decorations get swiped from Ann Arbor homes

1 thief caught on surveillance video stealing decorations from Ann Arbor home

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Stephanie Falbo and her family do not hide the fact their Ann Arbor home is under 24-hour surveillance, but a thief hit an all-time low when he stole holiday decorations right off the home's front porch.

"We walked into the driveway here and we saw our penguins were gone," Falbo said.

The candy canes which lined their driveway were swiped, too.

"He plucked each one, one by one, still lit, and then tried to carry them but they were plugged in," Falbo said.

The Christmas penguins on the front porch were unplugged and ripped off. The thieves only left the mittens and earmuffs behind.

"The mother penguin and baby penguin were gone," she said.

Falbo's home was not the only one targeted in the Ann Arbor neighborhood. Police say 10 homes have been hit.

Surveillance video from Falbo's home shows thief unplug her decorations, grab them and run to a getaway car. It's enough for Falbo to keep the north pole out of the Grinche's reach.

"It puts a damper on the holiday spirit. It's not the money, of course, or even the decorations. But it's just the fun spirit of it, especially for the kids," she said.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the surveillance video should contact Ann Arbor police.
