Community pillar donates $5 million to DIA

Bonnie Ann Larson continues to support Detroit Institute of Art

DETROIT – Bonnie Ann Larson continued her Detroit Institute of Arts support with a $5 million donation Wednesday.

“I want to help ensure that we never lose sight of the DIA’s magical power to enrich the minds and hearts of anyone who might find their way through these doors." said Larson, who has served on the DIA board since 2014.

In return, the DIA has started the Bonnie Ann Larson Modern European Masters Series as a symbol of gratitude towards the long-time board member. The collection features works from iconic artists, including Henri Matisse, Claud Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and more.

It wasn’t the first recognition the philanthropist has received from the DIA; in 2014, Larson was the recipient of a Lifetime Service Award.

“Bonnie has been one of our most passionate and dedicated volunteers for almost 40 years,” said DIA board chair member Eugene A. Gargaro Jr. “She is tireless in her commitment to ensuring the DIA’s success.”
