HOWELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man and woman seen stealing a donation jar from a convenience store in Howell Township committed the crime while accompanied by a young girl.
The owner of the 7-Eleven store at M-59 and Grand River Avenue often places donation jars on the store counter. The jar in place this past Saturday held about $100 meant to help pay for surgery needed by a girl with cerebral palsy.
Livingston County Sheriff's Department Det. Lt. Scott Domine said the couple had come into the store earlier and then returned later with a girl believed to be about 8 years old.
"At this time, it didn't appear they used the child as part of the ruse. It just appeared that they had come in the second time around with that subject with the intent to steal the jar," Domine said.
When the couple came back into the store, lieutenant Domine said they made their move.
"They removed a donation jar that was on the counter. The male subject had taken the jar and put it in his pants and they walked out with it," Domine said.
The couple with the child then left in a gold or light brown Chevrolet SUV, possibly a Blazer model.
Anyone who might have information about this theft is asked to contact the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.
