DETROIT – An elderly Detroit woman feels she can't take any chances anymore after two men broke into her home where she has lived since 1966.
The 95-year-old woman did not really want to talk about what happened. She didn't want her name used in this story and she didn't want to appear on camera.
"I was so frantic. It is a terrible feeling to be in the house and see some strangers in your house," she said. "I didn't have anything to help me but the good Lord."
She says she was getting out of the shower when she saw two men in her home Sunday afternoon on Griggs Street on the city's northwest side. The men got in through the window.
"I started screaming with no clothes on, came to the door and opened the door for someone to come help me," she said.
Ricco Swift, her neighbor, heard the cries for help. However, the men already had fled, running away empty-handed.
"She was in her front door screaming, 'Help!'" Swift said.
Just a 1/2 mile away on Monte Vista Street Detroit police were investigating another weekend burglary. The victim is also a senior citizen. Police are investigating whether the break-ins are connected.
For now, this woman doesn't know what more she can do to stay safe.
"I don't let anybody in. I do all the things correctly but it is still not enough. They got to me," she said.
