Dad arrested in connection with fire that killed 2 boys

Boys, ages 1 and 4, killed in Friday's fire

DETROIT – A Detroit father has been arrested in connection with a fire that killed his two boys, ages 1 and 4, on Friday.

The 37-year-old dad told police he had left the youngsters alone for only 10 minutes and when he returned his home in the 16000 of Prairie Street was engulfed in flames.

When firefighters arrived, neighbors were screaming that there were kids inside the burning home. Firefighters entered immediately and found the children in an upstairs bedroom.

"Before the water was even turned on they were busting through that door trying to get in," said neighbor Clark Washington, Jr. "Maybe a minute or two later they brought one child out and then another minute after that the second child came out."

The father was arrested on a child endangerment statute. There is no word on when he'll be arraigned.

The boys were rushed to a hospital but they did not survive.
