Detroit lands on top 25 list of cities contending for Amazon's second headquarters

Detroit ranked No. 22 on list

DETROIT – Detroit cracked the top 25 on a list of cities in the running for Amazon's new headquarters.

Detroit landed at No. 22 on the list, which was out of 64 total cities.

The city is trying to get Amazon's attention, most recently with a hype video released by Dan Gilbert. But the hype took a hit with the new list, which put 21 other cities ahead of Detroit.

"We did something that we're calling a super-ranking," said Ted Sperling, of BestPlaces.net.

The rankings were put together by BestPlaces.net, which combined 18 other rankings by the who's who of the economic and tech world.

"Definitely Detroit has a chance," Sperling said. "This is kind of the best guess from what people are guessing. So I think, coming in at 22, it's definitely still in the running."

"We've come back from far worse in the city of Detroit," a resident said.

Detroit is again the underdog, but that's how some residents like it.

The international border and the city's potential during its turnaround are two of the aspects that set Detroit apart.
