Detroit police arrest man suspected of ringing doorbell while armed with gun

Video shows man with gun ringing doorbell at Detroit home

DETROIT – There's been a break in the case of a man caught on video ringing someone's doorbell in Detroit while holding a gun.

The incident happened at a home on Asbury Park near Eight Mile Road and The Lodge. The mother of four who lives there said it's unheard of for someone to ring her doorbell at 1:30 a.m. Saturday

At the time, Dwana said she was asleep, as were her 17-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter.

Her home surveillance video was shared so many times the Detroit police now have a man in custody.

"I just knew it was a matter of time," Dwana said.

Clutching a weapon, and at time covering his face, the man captured on the video tried to get Dwana to open her front door. But now he is in police custody.

"There's no way that video could be out there, and his face be crystal clear, and no one know who he was," Dwana said.

Her Facebook post about the incident was shared almost 13,000 times.

"It was concerning, but it definitely got a lot of people's attention," Dwana said.

The family lives on Asbury Park near 8 Mile Road and The Lodge on Detroit's northwest side. It's not clear if the woman was picked at random or targeted.

"You want to believe that it was the wrong address and they may have had the wrong house," Dwana said. "So I don't understand why you would pick someone like that."

Dwana used an app on her phone to see the gunman standing on her porch through surveillance cameras. She said there was another man waiting on the sidewalk.

"I heard them asking where the cameras were, and at that point, I told my son to stay in bed," Dwana said.

After the left, she called a friend, and when they reviewed the video, that's what she first noticed the gun and called police.

"You've been warned," Dwana said. "Don't come for me."

From the high-quality video, Detroit police were able to identify the man who they said is a felon with a history of armed robberies.

"Just why?" Dwana asked. "You're throwing your life away for what? It's not worth it."
