When officers approached the Escape, they said they saw a Hispanic man in the back seat. They said he was acting extremely nervous and slumping down in the seat to hide his face. Police said they asked for his name, and he handed them an Arizona ID.

The man was identified as Giovani Salgado, 26, of Phoenix, Arizona. Police looked up his record and discovered he was wanted for a double shooting in Phoenix, officials said.

Salgado was charged in the shooting, which left one person dead and another person critically injured.

The warrant was issued Monday. Police said Salgado had posted $500,000 bail and fled the state last week to avoid being prosecuted.

Salgado was arrested and is being held at the Detroit Detention Center awaiting extradition, police said.
