DETROIT - A Detroit police officer accused of theft and misconduct in office was suspended without pay and expected to be arraigned Friday.

Michael Merritt, 40, was charged with larceny from a motor vehicle and misconduct in office.

Merritt was on duty Sept. 19 at the Third Precinct on Grand River Avenue when he allegedly removed a hydraulic jack and tools from a truck parked in the rear of the police parking lot.

According to the Wayne County prosecutor’s office, Merritt drove his personal vehicle over to the tools and put them in the rear passenger seat.

Merritt was suspended without pay and is expected to be arraigned Friday.
