DETROIT - An off-duty Detroit officer was hospitalized with minor injuries Friday morning after a hit-and-run crash on the city’s east side.

Police said the officer saw two cars chasing each other at about 12:15 a.m. in the area of Robinwood Street and Mound Road.

A Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat allegedly crashed into the officer’s vehicle and the driver fled on foot. The driver allegedly pulled out a weapon and pointed it at the officer, who fired two shots back at the suspect.

The suspect was found hiding in another vehicle several blocks away after police received a tip from the public. The man was taken into custody.

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The second vehicle involved in the incident was not located.
