Detroit police search for man who pointed gun at officers, prompting shot to be fired

DETROIT - Police are searching for a 27-year-old man who pointed a handgun at officers before driving away in Southwest Detroit, officials said.

Detectives were investigating a different case around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of South Liddesdale Street when they saw four men arguing in the street, police said.

One of the men, identified as Ronito Gomez, pulled out a handgun and went after the other men, police said.

Detective announced themselves and intervened. Gomez got into a black Altima and started backing toward the officers, police said.

Gomez pointed a weapon at the detectives, and one of the officers fired a single shot, police said.

Officers believe the Altima was struck by the shot.
