Teachers to get pay cuts, keep benefits

DETROIT - Detroit Public Schools' emergency manager has imposed a new 3-year contract for teachers.

The district says the contract includes a 10% reduction in pay from last year.

They will still have the same health and dental benefits but the contract will get rid of sick pay and cashout upon retirement.

Maternity leave will be reduced to 12 weeks.

The president of the teachers' union is not happy with this contract and says the union plans to "ignore it."
