Detroit's historic Ford Piquette Avenue Plant to open Henry Ford's 'Secret Experimental Room'

Room opening in celebration of Model T's 109th birthday

DETROIT – Henry Ford's "Secret Experimental Room" at the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit will be opened to visitors Sunday for the first time in more than 100 years.

The room is where Ford spent months working on the Model T car behind closed doors, and the first Model T emerged from the secret room that few were allowed inside in 1908.

The room is opening in celebration of the car's 109th birthday. 

The grand opening of the new exhibit area will feature free Model T rides, a car show, refreshments, music and family-oriented games, as well as free admission to the plant.

The room will be unveiled at 11 a.m. and free activities will begin at noon.
