Detroit teen shot after school event dies

Craig: 4 gang members shot into crowd

DETROIT - Sources confirm 19-year-old Darryl Smith has died after being shot by four black men with a gang affiliation.

A burgundy or red Impala or Grand AM with the four suspects inside was seen circling the area of the parking lot of East English Village Preparatory Academy before yelling a gang affiliation and firing shots into a crowd of around 100 people.

Smith was shot and critically injured during the incident. He died over the weekend.

Craig said he is not in any way associated with gang activity.

Smith has a job and aspirations of becoming a professional athlete. He was at the school because his uncle is a student there and he was going to see the Grammy event.

Craig says that police know what two gangs were involved in the incident. He also had a description of two of the four suspects:

Suspect 1: Black man, light complexion, 17 to 19 years old, wearing a short-sleeved shirt

Suspect 2: Black man, light complexion, 18 to 21 years old, wearing a white shirt

The suspects fled eastbound after firing the shots. Craig said that police won't rest until they dismantle both of the street gangs.
