Detroit woman arrested, accused of stabbing another woman over fan

Woman allegedly stabbed over fan is hospitalized, in good condition

DETROIT – A Detroit woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stabbing another woman in a fight over a fan.

The air conditioning is not working in Barbara Withers' east side apartment.

Withers said she has been without air conditioning all summer and would go to the laundry room to keep cool.  The air conditioner was blowing cool air.

Withers said a woman brought a fan to her apartment, but actually bullied her.

"She came to my door to tease me about a fan, she didn't want to give me a fan, She wanted to tease me," Withers said.

Withers said the hot weather has complicated her many health problems.

"I have panic disorder, a heart attack, I have diabetes," Withers said.

Only Local 4 cameras were rolling when 60-year-old  Withers was arrested by Detroit police on the city's east side.

Her fiance, Darius Mapp, was troubled by the turn of events.

"This wasn't just over a fan, it was about like $8. Now she's going to jail. I don't know," Mapp said.

Mapp said he is getting an attorney for his girlfriend.  The woman who was stabbed  should be out of the hospital soon.
