Vanderlinden had been strangled. Her two sons were stabbed to death.

Their bodies were found by Van Buren Township police, who had gone to the home to inform the family that Vanderlinden's husband, Michael, had been killed in a car crash that same morning in northern Indiana.

Police said Michael Vanderlinden is suspected of being responsible for the killings. Investigators believe an 8 1/2-inch butcher knife found in the kitchen sink was the weapon used in the stabbings.
