Double shooting kills one at Detroit bar

Second victim in critical condition

DETROIT - Two men were shot inside the Blackberry Bar & Grill on Grand River and Patton Street on the west side of Detroit Saturday morning. One victim, in his 20s, was shot in the head and killed. The other man, also in his 20s, was shot in the face and rushed to the hospital. He is listed in critical condition.

One Local 4 viewer lives near the bar and heard the whole incident.

"I heard six shots," she said. "It woke me up out of my sleep." The Detroit native said she then saw several cars speed out of the parking lot.

This isn't the first incident at the bar; the viewer says the Blackberry is attracting too much trouble and she hears shots at night and in the early morning.

"It's really bad for the neighborhood, we have families," she said. "Children, grandchildren, it's really bad."

Just one year ago 21-year old college student Claudia Benson was shot to death in front of the bar as the gunman snatched her purse. Weeks before that Demesha Hunt and her cousin Ranisha Landers told family they were going to the Blackberry bar and their bodies were discovered in Landers' new Chrysler 300. Their murders are part of the killings.

The Blackberry's owners have told Local 4 that the trouble is not inside the bar but outside, where they say broken street lamps make it unsafe. The bar has security cameras and lights in its parking lot.

Police don't have any suspects for Saturday morning's murder yet.
