Driver crashes into several cars, house after leading police on 100 mph chase into Berkley

Driver arrested, passenger still on loose after crash

BERKLEY, Mich. – A town car crashed into several cars and a Berkley home Monday after leading Royal Oak police on a high-speed chase.

Police said the they were chasing the town car after an attempted traffic stop when the driver lost control, careened into several cars and crashed into the front porch of a home.

"Looking outside my window and seeing my front porch destroyed, and seeing how close it was to my house is absolutely terrifying," Kevin Mack said. "My heart's still racing a bit from it.

Police said they chased the car at speeds up to 100 mph down Woodward Avenue when they turned right onto Catalpa Drive. That's where the driver lost control and crashed into Mack's cars and porch.

The driver was immediately taken into custody, but the passenger got out and ran, police said.

"That's when my kids got a little scared, so I sent them upstairs, locked the doors because I saw a man run into my backyard," Mack said.

Fortunately, the children had just gone inside before the crash, Mack said.

Police are still searching for the passenger.
