YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 55-year-old Ypsilanti Township man pleaded guilty Thursday to driving under the influence of cocaine in a July incident that killed a 2-year-old girl.
Police were called to the area of Carol Ann Avenue and Eileen Street at 6:20 p.m. July 4 on reports of a person injured in a crash.
Investigators learned that a 2-year-old girl was crossing the street while following a family member when she was hit by a car. She was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Officials said Leslie Davis Sutton had drunk alcohol and consumed narcotics before driving. He was arrested and taken to the hospital for more drug and alcohol testing.
Sutton pleaded guilty Thursday to operating under the influence of drugs (cocaine), driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and open intoxicants within a motor vehicle.
