Two women raped on EMU campus, football player shot to death last week

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Two women were raped inside their campus residence halls this weekend at Eastern Michigan University.

A football player was shot to death near campus last week, and another student was murdered in a drowning last December.

This week, Eastern Michigan University put safety front and center during in a student forum.

Students at EMU say they are afraid.

"I'm actually afraid, I didn't even come to school Friday or Monday," said one student.

The campus has been rocked by violence.

"There is a lack of security on campus," said another student.

Over the weekend two female students were sexually assaulted. Both were attacked by people they know.

Early Sunday morning one student was attacked by five men in an on-campus parking lot. The day before another student was attacked and robbed by a group of men.

EMU wide receiver Demarius Reed's body was found about 7 a.m. Friday by a roommate in the University Green apartment complex. Reed, 20, was shot to death.

"No less than six people heard what they describe as gunshots and no one called the police. We also learned there was a large, loud party with fights and no one called the police," said an officer during the forum.

Students and parents chimed in during the forum.

"So we could work out a plan that is proactive. We should not have to wait for something to happen to our kids," said one concern parent.
