ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Voters in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties appear to have approved a renewal of a special property tax to help fund operations at the Detroit Zoo.

The renewal is a 0.1 millage for the next ten years. The millage provides about one third of the Detroit Zoo’s operating budget.

The money is used for operations and maintenance of the zoo’s 125-acre campus in Royal Oak.
The tax was initially passed in 2008.
More than 1.4 million people visit the Detroit Zoo annually.
