Equipment trailer stolen from church parking lot in Trenton

TRENTON, Mich. – A trailer full of equipment belonging to the Southpoint Church was stolen Thursday evening from their location in Trenton.

“It’s a pretty gutsy move to come right on to church property and basically steal God’s stuff,” Lead Minister Brett Kays said.

As pastor’s prepared for Sunday service, they noticed the trailer was gone.

“I received a call this morning by our Huron campus pastor who showed up at our Trenton location where we keep the trailer throughout the week,” Kays said.

Surveillance video shows the theft happening at 9 p.m.

“First it came in and scoped the area to make sure no one was watching,” said Terry Smith who provides security for the church. “Then he backed up and hooked up to the trailer and just casually left.”

It appears the red pickup truck got off at the Vreeland Road exit and headed towards West Jefferson Avenue.

Southpoint Church has three locations. They do services in Trenton, Allen Park and more recently in Huron Township where the service is set up inside of the high school.

The church uses the trailer to bring equipment to the high school.

Kay says he knows what is inside the trailer and it can all be replaced, but he has a message for the thief.

“We’re letting this person know, or group of people know, that God still loves them, that no matter what they’ve done they can still turn to God, find forgiveness, and we would love to actually have them come someday and be with us in church,” Kays said. “There can be reconciliation and restoration, all the things God promises.”
