Escaped Wayne County inmate back in court to face new criminal charges

Abraham Pearson caught Monday night walking near I-94 after escaping custody before sentencing

The man who authorities believe is responsible for stabbing a sheriff's deputy with a shank fashioned from a plastic comb during an escape from a Detroit courthouse will be arraigned on charges related to that event on Wednesday.

Abraham Pearson, also known as Derreck White, was taken into custody Monday night following a daylong manhunt.

Sheriff Benny Napoleon said the 25-year-old Pearson attacked 63-year-old Deputy Harrison Tolliver, stole the deputy's clothes and then carjacked a minivan from a woman near the courthouse during his getaway.
