SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas – Investigators have collected hundreds of shell casings from the scene of a tragic church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
Officials also learned the shooter had three gunshots wounds. One was self-inflicted to the head, and the other two were from an armed citizen.
Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, is accused of killing 26 people, including the 14-year-old daughter of the church's pastor, and injuring more at First Baptist Church.
Among the victims was a couple from northern Michigan, Robert and Shani Corrigan. Renee Haley, who is the director of Veterans' Services in Clare County, said the Corrigans both were Harrison High School graduates and Robert was an Air Force retiree.
The family of the victims said their faith is stronger now more than ever. The tight-knit community of Harrison came together Monday for a candlelight vigil at Veterans Freedom Park.
Memories were shared to honor the Corrigans. Among the mourning was Robert's mother, Jean Anne Corrigan.
"He was kind to everybody. He made everybody laugh, and he was very musical," she said.
Her son, Robert, fell in love with Shani at Harrison High School.
"Shani was also a wonderful person," Jean Anne said. "Wonderful daughter-in-law. A wonderful mother."
Family members said Robert and Shani moved to Texas several years ago while he was in the Air Force. They attended First Baptist Church and were a part of the praise team.
"They love the Lord, and they were there praising the Lord when this happened," said Diane Latunski, Robert's aunt.
