DETROIT – The former site of a Big Boy restaurant in Detroit will be turned into a farmer's market and marketplace.
The site, at East Jefferson and East Grand Boulevard, across from Belle Isle, will feature more than a dozen vendors.

Being called the Islandview Village Marketplace, it will also include the Eastern Market Farm Stand program.
The marketplace will open Fridays, from 4 - 7 p.m., from June 30 - Sept. 29.
The Platform, a Detroit-based real estate developer is partnering with non-profit GenesisHOPE for the project.
“We were eager to expand our farmers market’s offerings, so when the Platform approached us about adding another location in the neighborhood, we were ecstatic,” said Jeanine C. Hatcher, executive director of GenesisHOPE. “Our mission is to provide a variety of good food options while creating an environment that fosters social and community connections and supports entrepreneurial opportunities.”
The Platform acquired the Big Boy site in March just after it was closed by the previous owner of the property.
“The Islandview neighborhood is a great community poised for even greater things,” said Platform Chairman Peter Cummings, “This partnership with GenesisHOPE is a win for everybody, as it keeps the property in use while we evaluate alternatives for the longer term development of the property.”
