Forecast: Lots of weather changes Thursday in metro Detroit

Wind, warmth, rain on the way

By Paul Gross - Meteorologist

DETROIT - It looks like a quiet night ahead with mostly clear skies, lows near 40 and south-southwest wind at 8 to 13 mph.

We'll have mostly sunny skies to start your Thursday, and wind will rapidly increase through the morning. We'll be dry, windy and mild with temps near 60 at lunchtime, but showers will approach the area from the northwest after 2 p.m., and increase through the remainder of the afternoon.

Bottom line is to take your sunglasses for the drive to work, and then your umbrella if you'll be outside later (although the wind will make it difficult on the umbrella).

Thursday's high in the low to mid 60s will occur in the early afternoon (warmest to the south where you'll get the rain last, and cooler to the north and west where the clouds and rain move in earlier), and be aware that temps will back into the 50s once the rain starts. Southwest wind at 20 to 30 mph.

Showers early Thursday evening should diminish after 9 p.m. Lows in the upper 30s.

Friday forecast:

Partly cloudy on Friday, with highs in the upper 50s. Partly cloudy Friday night with a light shower possible, and lows in the upper 30s.

Weekend forecast:

Partly cloudy on Saturday, with highs in the low 60s. It'll be a great start to the weekend, and plan on this to be your outdoor day for yard work, a nice walk with the dog, perhaps even some golf or tennis, because rain moves in Saturday night (hopefully late enough to keep things dry for our Saturday evening plans) and continues into Sunday.

Highs Sunday near 60, perhaps a little warmer if we get into a true Warm Sector situation and the rain tapers off for a bit and we get any hazy sun. But right now, this doesn't look to be the case. Rain continues Sunday night, with lows in the upper 40s.

Next week:

Rain continues at least through the first half of the day on Monday. Becoming windy, with highs near 50.

Then partly cloudy both Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs only in the mid 40s on Tuesday, and then bumping back up to near 50 on Wednesday.
