Forecast: Normal temps heading into weekend in metro Detroit

But wait until you read what comes after that!

By Paul Gross - Meteorologist

DETROIT - Clouds will quickly diminish this evening, leaving us with mostly clear skies and great sleeping weather tonight. Lows in the mid 50s, with mostly calm air through the night.

Mostly sunny on Friday -- a spectacular way to end the work week! Highs near 80. South wind at 50 to 10 mph. Mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the low 60s.

Mostly sunny to start on Saturday, then skies become partly cloudy for the afternoon. There's a chance for some scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms (especially late-afternoon), but the aerial coverage is somewhat uncertain right now: some computer models plow us with an upper level disturbance and bring numerous showers and storms, while other computer models hold off most of the activity until Saturday night.

If you have outdoor plans on Saturday, such as yard work, golf or tennis, I suggest trying to take the rain out of play by scheduling your activities for the first half of the day, just in case. Something else you can do is download the FREE WDIV weather app -- it has a great street-level map radar display that you can use to watch for developing storms -- and also don't forget to follow me on Twitter: @PaulGrossLocal4. Highs in the low 80s. Thunderstorm chances increase Saturday night, with lows in the upper 60s.

Shower and thunderstorm potential still exists on Sunday, but the timing is very uncertain right now. Highs in the upper 70s to near 80. There's still a chance for scattered showers and storms Sunday night, with lows in the mid 60s.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms on just depends upon the timing of an approaching strong cold front. How strong? Wait until you see the Tuesday / Wednesday forecast below. Highs Monday near 80. Becoming partly cloudy Monday night, with lows in the mid 50s.

Becoming mostly cloudy and breezy, with scattered showers possible. Highs only in the upper 60s! By the way, that won't be a record...Tuesday's record for lowest high temperature was 60, set way back in 1945. Partly cloudy Tuesday night, with lows in the low 50s.

Partly cloudy and still cool on Wednesday, with highs near 70. If highs don't go above 70, then we'll either tie or break the record for lowest high temp, which was 70 set way way back in 1896.

Gradual clearing Wednesday night, with lows in the mid 50s.

Then mostly sunny and back to "normal" summer weather on Thursday, with highs in the upper 70s.
