Former attorney for Davontae Sanford wants his license back

DETROIT – An attorney who represented a Detroit teenager who was in prison for eight years before his sudden release last week is trying to get his law license reinstated.

Robert Slameka's license was suspended last year after two misdemeanor convictions. He also has a long history of discipline.

In 2008, Slameka represented Davontae Sanford when the 15-year-old pleaded guilty to four murders he was later aquited of.. Sanford was released from prison last week after prosecutors acknowledged police misconduct and after a hit-man has admitted to the slayings.

Slameka didn't challenge Sanford's alleged confession. University of Michigan law professor David Moran, who played a major role in getting Davontae Sanford out of prision testified against Slameka at the Attorney Discipline Board.

He says Slameka is the "last person" he'd hire.

Messages seeking comment from Slameka's attorney weren't immediately returned Monday
