SCIO TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Some elementary and middle school students in Scio Township had to be evacuated Thursday morning because of a fire.

Washtenaw Intermediate School District spokeswoman Emma Jackson said students at Honey Creek Charter School in the High Point School building on South Wagner Road are all safe.

Jackson said the fire was in a modular class and there was smoke damage.

The fire started in the HVAC unit and spread into the void space between the ceiling tile and the roof deck of the classroom.
