High winds cause wide spread damage in Michigan's Upper Peninsula

ISHPEMING, Mich. – Clean up continues in Michigan's Upper Peninsula after severe weather brought high winds to the area on Monday.

Gusts topped 80 mph, creating a swatch of wide spread damage, knocking down trees and power lines.

The hardest hit areas were Ishpeming and Republic.

TV6 reports more than 2,400 homes without power as of Tuesday morning. Additional crews are being brought in to restore power.

A possible tornado triggered tornado warnings in West Michigan on Monday evening.

The radar indicated tornado was spotted in Ionia County around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, according to WOODTV.
