Holiday weather still looks fantastic!

But what about the weekend?

By Paul Gross - Meteorologist

DETROIT - Well, we made it through the midweek rain, and now splendid weather is returning just in time for our Independence Day holiday, as well as through most of the weekend!

If you'll be heading up north for the weekend, I'll have that forecast for you after I first take care our local forecast.

Metro Detroit 4th of July forecast:

Skies will become mostly clear tonight (if they haven't already where you are), and it's going to be a very comfortable sleeping night, with lows in the mid 50s. Very light wind from the north-northwest.

Our 4th of July holiday is going to be spectacular, with lots of sun and afternoon high temperatures in the mid 70s. North-northwest wind at 5 to 10 mph. **DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN IF YOU'LL BE OUTSIDE FOR A WHILE, AS THE SUN'S RAYS ARE AT THEIR STRONGEST OF THE ENTIRE YEAR RIGHT NOW, AND YOU CAN BURN QUICKLY.**

Mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the mid 50s.

Mostly sunny on Saturday, with highs in the upper 70s to near 80. Mostly clear Saturday night, with lows in the low 60s.

Partly cloudy and starting to get more humid on Sunday. There is the chance for a late afternoon scattered thunderstorm, but this is still far from certain. If we can hold this rain off until Sunday night, then I believe this will be our seventh consecutive nice weekend. I don't ever remember a stretch like this! Highs in the mid 80s.

Shower and thunderstorm chances increase Sunday night, and we'll need to keep an eye on this since the Tiger game against the Rays has been moved to Sunday evening. Lows in the upper 60s.

There's a good chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday (not the type of news that the WDIV Fighting Peacock softball team wants to hear), with highs in the low 80s.

Then partly cloudy on Tuesday, with highs near 80.

Up North 4th of July forecast:

If you're heading up north this weekend, Friday and Saturday look great, with the best chance for any showers being Saturday night through Sunday night. Highs generally should be in the low to mid 70s, with overnight lows in the upper 40s tonight and Friday night, and back into the 50s Saturday night. Have a safe trip and, as I mentioned yesterday, please be extra careful if you'll be handling fireworks.
