DETROIT – The homeowner who shot and killed a 19-year-old woman Nov. 2 on his Dearborn Heights porch called 911 to report the shooting.
Theodore Wafer, 54, was arraigned on a second degree murder charge Friday for the shooting death of Renisha McBride. Wafer called 911 to say he had just shot her on his porch.

The call was brief.
Dispatcher: "Dearborn Heights emergency."
Wafer: "Uh yes, I just shot somebody on my front porch with a shotgun, banging on my door."

Wafer gave the dispatcher his address and that was it.
In addition to the murder charge, Wafer faces manslaughter and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony charges. He entered no plea. He is free from jail after posting 10 percent of a $250,000 bond. His preliminary examination is Dec. 18.

"I am saying we do not believe he acted in lawful self-defense," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy told reporters Friday.
Authorities say McBride, of Detroit, drove into a parked car in the city around 1 a.m. After her death, tests determined her blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit for drivers in Michigan, a toxicology report said.
Witnesses said she left on foot, bloodied and disoriented, Worthy said. She ended up on Wafer's porch in neighboring Dearborn Heights at least a couple hours later that morning.
Wafer told investigators that he thought McBride was breaking into his home, and that the shotgun accidentally discharged when he investigated, police said.
